What is the sound of your soul? What does that mean to you? Can the soul even make sound? I believe it can.
Some may say that the sound of the soul is silence, only to be felt and not heard. That can be the case, but I believe that when a person sings they are expressing the essence of who they really are as a human being.
Each person’s soul is unique, and so is every voice. The voice rides on air and frequencies and when that sound reaches the ears of others it tells them a story about what we want to say. Is it a story about our journey, a time in history, an emotion, a desire for heaven, or something else? Where do we want to take ourselves and our listeners when we sing?
I know that for me, singing at Mass in my church has always been about helping others connect with God. I want them to sense His love in our midst. When I hit the highest notes I especially feel like my soul is soaring above the clouds to eternity. I feel alive and joyful in that connection.
What do you want to express today? Let your soul deliver it to the world.
